What distinguishes us from other nanny services?

With a three month residential program, English Nanny & Governess School has the ability to conduct a thorough background screening to ensure that every candidate is qualified to provide a safe and nurturing environment for your children.  We see our students every day and know their personalities, skills and strengths.

With small classes, our students are able to develop an intimate, personal relationship with our dedicated faculty.  These close relationships continue throughout the years as members of the faculty make themselves available to offer the benefits of their expertise to both you and our graduates.
To qualify to attend ENGS, our in-depth screening consists of:
  • Psychological/sociological review by independent Licensed Professional Clinical counselor
  • Five professional letters of recommendation
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) national clearance
  • Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) state clearance
  • Local police clearance
  • Driving records from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV)
  • Current physical examination and TB test
  • Notarized non-child abuse declaration
  • Credit report

I need childcare. What are my different options?
  • Au pair: the au pair program is a worldwide cultural exchange visit for young adults to allow them the opportunity to spend a year in America.  In exchange for free room and board, plus a small stipend, the au pair assists with childcare and household duties.  No nanny training is required.
  • Online nanny: there are many online nanny matching sites with thousands of people to choose from.  As there is no physical interview, the web allows people to fabricate their credentials and expertise.  There is no screening, which means you will have to make your own determination of the applicant's suitability and reliability.
  • Hiring through a nanny agency: as there are no required regulations in the United States, a nanny agency's credibility can be widely varied.  The International Nanny Association (INA) and the Association of Premier Nanny Agencies (APNA) both recommend quality standards for agencies but are powerless to enforce them.  Most nanny agencies do conduct personal interviews of their applicants; however, the meetings are brief.  Screening and background checks vary.
